Harold Burdell Barnick (Barney), age 82, of Lake Crystal, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lake Crystal Mortuary. Memorials preferred to Cancer Research, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester or Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal.
Harold was born on November 2, 1936 to Ed and Rose (Salzmann) Barnick. Harold attended Wells High School. He then enlisted in the Army on January 21, 1955. Harold attended Boot Camp in Ft. Riley, Kansas. He spent 32 months overseas in Germany. Harold received the Specialist 3, the Good Conduct Medal and was awarded the Sharp Shooter (Rifle) badge. He was united in marriage to Dorothy (Nelson) Barnick on October 7, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea. Harold worked as an Electrical Lineman for the Lake Crystal Municipal. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. Harold was also a life member of the American Legion Post #294 in Lake Crystal, and served in the Honor Guard. Harold was a volunteer firearms safety instructor for 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and family time spent at their cabin.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Lake Crystal, MN; son, Rick (Jan) Barnick of Elmore, MN; daughter, Beth (Randy) Giefer of Richfield, MN; grandchildren, Damon Barnick of Rochester, MN and Amber Barnick of Reynolds, ND; sister-in-law, Bessy Barnick of Albert Lea, MN; sister-in-law, Byrene Schmidt of Lake Crystal, MN; brother-in-law, Donnie Schmidt of Lake Crystal, MN, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard, Robert, Jack and Hank; four sisters, Janiece Schieck, Lois Thisius, Mary Coy and Donna Steinhauer.
