Warren Donald Asher passed away at just after midnight on January 3, 2019 from Alzheimer’s in hospice care at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center, Mankato, Minnesota at the age of 97.

Warren was born to Alva W Asher and Anna May Hanks Asher on February 8, 1921 at the St. Paul Hospital, St. Paul, Minnesota. On June 6, 1942, Warren Asher was united in marriage with Amy Jean Stabno in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This union was blessed with 4 children- Gregg, Dana, David and Debra.

On October 10, 1942 Warren entered active duty in the United States Army at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. From Ft. Snelling, Minnesota he was sent by train to the West Coast of the United States for embarkation to New Caledonia, southwest Pacific Ocean. During his time in the South Pacific he was on Guadalcanal as a Army Air Corp teletype operator.  He left the South Pacific on April 28, 1945 arriving in San Francisco on May 12, 1945. He was discharged from the Army Air Corp on October 18, 1945 at San Antonio, TX.

After discharge from military service, he attended Brown Radio Institute, formerly the American Institute of the Air, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He worked at radio stations in Mississippi, Southern Minnesota and St. Paul, Minnesota. From 1965 to 2016, he considered South Minneapolis his home. From Sept, 2017 until November 2018 he resided in a modern apartment in an assisted living community in Edina, Minnesota.

He is survived by sons Gregg Asher, Mankato, Minnesota, and David (Liezl)Asher, McAllen, Texas, daughter Debra Asher, Redwood City; California; grandson Keir (Tricia) Asher, Eagle Lake, Minnesota and two great-grandchildren Griffin and Emerson and special friends Dave and Sue Newman.

He was preceded in death by wife Amy Jean Asher; his parents Alva and Anna Asher; his brother Robert and son Dana.

A private service will be held at a later date.
