Joseph H. Phillips, age 88 of rural Rapidan, died Friday, January 18, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Tim Reker officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4–7 p.m., with a 3:45 p.m. prayer service at Northview–North Mankato Mortuary in North Mankato. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Joseph Henry Phillips was born May 21, 1930 to Theodore and Mary (Schmitz) Phillips in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Rapidan High School in 1948. Joe served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On November 20, 1956, he was united in marriage to Martha M. Borglum at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Easton. Joe was a lifetime Rapidan area farmer and a member of the American Legion. He was also a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Joe liked sporting events, but traveling, especially to Branson, was his true enjoyment.
Joe is survived by his wife, Martha; five children, Martin (Lisa) Phillips of rural Rapidan, Christine Black of Mapleton, Daniel (Linda) Phillips of Mankato, Timothy (Brenda) Phillips of Rochester, Emily (David) Corcoran of Oceanside, CA; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Mary Joan Phillips of Denville, NJ, Marilyn and husband, Don Sieberg of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Eldred, Norbert, and Neal Phillips.
