Eldon Marks, of rural Amboy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13 at Pathstone Senior Living Center in Mankato.

Eldon was an inspiration to many and set a high bar for us all. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, a farmer, an inventor, a craftsman and an honorable man. He always had a story to share, couldn’t resist a good auction sale, and amassed collections of various “whatchamacallits.”

Eldon, born January 19, 1922, almost made it to his 97th birthday. Son of William and Clara Marks, he grew up on a farm near Delavan. Eldon was proud of his service to our country. During WWII he enlisted in the Army Air Force and worked as a P51 Mustang Airplane Mechanic. After the war he returned home and began his farming career.

In 1947 he married his beautiful bride, Lynette Heise, from Easton. They made their home for 65 years on a farm in Shelby township, west of Amboy. They were active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amboy.

Eldon was an innovative farmer who designed and built many machines and devices to help increase his farm’s efficiency. “Eldon’s Workshop”, a permanent exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota in Mankato, honors his life’s work.

During retirement, Eldon and Lynette cherished their travels, both domestically and abroad. They also enjoyed many winters with their snowbird friends in sunny southern Texas.

Eldon is survived by his children, Bill (Melissa) of Mankato, Brad (Rita) of Owatonna, Barb (Charles) Warren of Mound and Ben (Brenda) of Minnetonka; grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Marks, Bethany (Aaron) Schenck, Luke Marks, Adam (Mary) Marks, Rachel Marks, Amanda Marks, Marcus Fleming, Krista Fleming, Trenton Marks, Gavin Marks and Kyla Hass; great-grandchildren, Noah and Madeline Marks, Aiden and Oliver Schenck and baby boy due soon. Eldon was preceded in death by his wife, Lynette and his siblings, Harry and Elsie.

A special thank you to the staff at Pathstone and St.Croix Hospice for making Eldon’s last years and days comfortable

The family will have a celebration of Eldon’s life this summer, date pending. #Eldonfest
