Mary E. Theis

Mary E. Theis, age 88, of Mankato, MN, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at her home in Realife Cooperative in Mankato, MN.

Mary was born in Cannon Falls, MN to Rose and Harlow Bowers.  She was married to Eldred M. Theis in 1950 and together they raised eight children in the Catholic Church. They were an example of dedicated, hard-working parents committed to family.

Mary was trained as an LPN and worked at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital for 16 years prior to her retirement.  She made her home in Realife Cooperative in 1997 and was active in the building and decorating committee.  She was selfless and generous, always placing others’ needs above her own. 

She is survived by her children, Barbara Theis of Silverthorne, CO, John Theis of Mount Dora, FL, Scott (Lindy) Theis of Anchorage, AK, Richard Theis of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert (Betsy) Theis of Edina, MN, Margaret Theis of River Bend, NC, Donna Swammi of Minneapolis, MN, and James (Jennifer) Theis of Rochester, MN; her grandchildren, Dylan Theis, Dustin Theis, Tyler Theis, Breanna (Tommy) Ratcliffe, Kailey Theis, Kelly Boggs, Kara Boggs, Miles Swammi, and Sophia Theis; her great grandson, Kayleb; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary was a loyal Vikings fan, so much so her children knew better than to call her during a football game!  She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years.  A family memorial will be held in the spring with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
