Joseph “Joe” A. Hoehn, age 80 of Shakopee, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.

 

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019, All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, MN. Visitation from 4 – 7 p.m., Tuesday at Northview~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56001. Visitation continues one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.

 

Joe was born on December 19, 1938 to Charles and Eva (Frederick) Hoehn in Mankato. He grew up in Madison Lake, attended All Saints School and Loyola High School in Mankato. Joe entered St. Mary’s Seminary and St. Paul Seminary. Joe married Carol McCloskey in 1973. He then earned his MA for counseling training in California and returned to Minnesota working for Lutheran Social Services in Worthington for 25 years before opening his own counseling office, the Prairie Rose Counseling Center, for 12 years. Finally retiring in 2012, he and Carol moved to Shakopee.

 

Joe was a loving husband and a dedicated father who involved himself in his sons’ interests as if they were his own. To Joe, if it was worth doing it was worth overdoing. He was a zealous gardener, the creator of his own nature preserve, a 360 days a year biker; and an insatiable hobby collector—especially pin-back buttons, stamps, and coins. He was an avid Gopher, Twins and Vikings fan. Was a music fan, especially Noah’s and Ben’s bands. Traveling with Carol and a supporter and fan of grand- nephew’s sports. He was committed and compassionate in his life’s work to serve and heal those in need.

 

Survived by his wife, Carol of Shakopee; two sons, Ben (Meg) Hoehn of Minneapolis, Noah (Sarah) Hoehn of Minnetonka; four grandchildren, Amelia, Elsa, Leo, and Cassia; nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Aloysius, Claver and Calvin; two sisters, Elaine Rollins and Anita Gostmoczik.
