Ruth Cumming

Ruth Romona Cumming, 77 of Mapleton, died December 28, 2018 in rural Mapleton.

Funeral service will be 11a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the United Church of Mapleton in Mapleton. Visitation will be from 4-7p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the United Church of Mapleton and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Decoria Cemetery. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials be given to the United Church of Mapleton or the Heather Curling Club.

Ruth was born July 1, 1941 to George and Rachel (DeRemer) Rader in Mapleton. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1960. On September 9, 1961 she married Loren Cumming in Mapleton. Together they raised 3 children, Liza Jo, Sheila, and Randy.

Ruth was deeply involved with her community. She was a dedicated member of the United Church of Mapleton, volunteered at the Mapleton Loaves and Fishes Food Shelf and the MRCI Thrift Store in Mankato. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed playing BINGO with friends, curling for many years, knitting, including knitting sweaters for the curling team, and especially spending time with and attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

Ruth is survived by her children, Liza Jo (Craig) Woitas of Huntley, Sheila (Dr. Chad) Malwitz of Wells; and Randy (Linda) Cumming of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Tiffany, Hunter, Mason, Jennifer (Tony), and Melissa (Mark); great-grandchildren, Reagan, Grayson, Colten, Brody, Jadie, Mackenzie, and Madison; sister, Emily Minkel; brother, Jim Rader; and brothers-in-law, Doug Kopischke and Les Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loren in 2007; father and mother-in-law, Stuart and Irene; one sister; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
