Mary Rosalie Mortier, 75, of Mankato, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato. 
 
Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30pm, Monday, December 17, 2018 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior. A prayer service will be held at 3pm, Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall, followed by fellowship and refreshments with the family. The youngest of six children, Mary was born March 24, 1943 in Marshall, MN to Charles and Bertha (Hammerlinck) Mortier. She was raised with her two brothers and three sisters and graduated from Central Catholic High School. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in the College of St. Benedict for four years and graduated with honors. Mary began her teaching career in Hastings, MN for two years. She was a lifelong learner and pursued her Master’s Degree while teaching fifth grade at Washington Elementary School. She completed 32 years of service to the Mankato District. She served her profession faithfully, both inside and outside the classroom. After retirement, Mary enjoyed giving back by volunteering. When she wasn’t volunteering, she was traveling. Mary took trips to Australia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Alaska, Hawaii, and many more destinations. Mary enjoyed singing in the SS. Peter and Paul choir and supported the Mankato Symphony Orchestra and many other organizations and charities. She loved books, and was an avid reader.
 
Mary is survived by her sisters, Joan (Ken) Collins of Yountville, VA and Phyllis Carr of Marshall, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth (Joseph) Mortier of Marshall, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dorothy Mortier, Joseph Mortier, and Francis Mortier; brother-in-law, Robert Carr; and sister-in-law; Geogie Ann Mortier.
