Viola Lorraine Potz, age 86 of Vernon Center passed away peacefully at Mapleton Community Home on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
A celebration of Vi’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Pastor Mike Omtvedt officiating. There will be a time to visit with the family, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Vernon Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Mankato Mortuary handling arrangements.
Viola was born to Fritz and Sophia Oltman on February 25, 1932 in Nashville, Township, Martin County. She married Henry “Harry” Joseph Potz on December 26, 1953 and lived in Vernon Center for her entire life. Vi worked for Thro Company nursing homes and retired as Dietary Director. She also worked part time for the US Post Office.
Vi leaves a family who will miss her dearly, children, Bonnie (Edwin) Hovey of Belfair, WA, Bill (Sue) Potz of Vernon Center, Neil Potz of Vernon Center, Dale (Dorina) Potz of Olalla, WA; grandchildren, Brandon (Shauna) Smith of Butte, MT, April Rhodes of Port Orchard, WA, Quinn (Sean) Busse of Amboy, Sophia Potz of Belfair, WA, Joshua and Ashlyn Potz of Olalla, WA; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Eloise Ward; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Oltmans and Betsy’s fiancée,Ted Ward; nieces and nephews. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Betsy Potz, son-in-law, Scott A. Smith, brother, Herbert Oltmans, sister, Josephine Davitt, step-sons, Eugene and Stephan Potz, grandson, Sterling Potz, along with many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
