Douglas Elden Paape age 74 of Mankato died Saturday, December 01, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato after battling cancer for the past year.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary in North Mankato. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jonathan Zierdt Cancer Fund.
Douglas Elden Paape was born February 23, 1944 to Elden and Thelma (Boom) Paape in Breckenridge, Minnesota. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1962. Doug worked with his dad since high school, building Paape Distributing from a 2-person business into what it is today. In the mid-80’s they started Paape Energy Services, in 1996 Doug took ownership of Paape and in January, 2002 he started Paape Security Services, which, with his insight, brought Paape Companies to a full building service company. He was a member of MASMS and Greater Mankato Growth.
Doug was a lifetime resident of the Mankato area. For the past 20 years, he enjoyed the winter months in Arizona. He loved traveling with his family, enjoyed being outside working in his yard, boating, classic cars, antique tractors and being a new grandfather. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his wife Karen of Mankato; three children, Timothy (Amy) Paape of Zurich, Switzerland, Kevin Paape of Mankato, Jakki (Scott) Laughter of Mankato; two grandchildren, Abbey Paape and Cohen Laughter; three siblings, Sonja Rowe of Sun Lake, AZ, twin brother, Darvin Paape of Tucson, AZ, Bonnie (Ray) Aronson of Owatonna; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Karen Elaine Paape.
