Marvel Marie Gens

Marvel Marie (Schultz) Gens, age 94 died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Crystal Seasons in Lake Crystal.

A Memorial Celebration will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Dr.).  Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Marvel was born in Lewisville on January 20, 1924 to Ernest and Marie (Wiederhoeft) Schultz.  She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville.  She graduated from Truman High School and studied business at Mankato Commercial College.

Marvel married Waldon Gens on April 22, 1945.  She remembered receiving gas rationing coupons as wedding gifts so they could drive to the Twin Cities for their honeymoon.  Marvel was a dedicated wife and mother and baked thousands of loaves of bread and hundreds of coffee cakes over the years.  She loved playing cards and showing off her gardens.  She was a member of the 500 Marathon Club for many years.  She was active in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school for 27 years.

Marvel is remembered by her children, Debra Ireland (Barry Bartelt) of Waseca, Zoe Barta (David Hirschey) of Stillwater, Sandy Gens (Paul Steiner) of Eagan, and Scott (Zelta) Gens of Vernon Center; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldon in 1992; her daughter, Judy Lecher in 2002; her brothers, Ewald Schultz in 1976, Vernon Schultz in 2012; and her sister, Valeria Hasselhop in 2000.
