Eunice G. Kroeger Schwint left this earthly life to be with her Savior Jesus Christ in heaven on November 11, 2018.
A service of comfort and celebration will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato on Friday, November 16 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 15 at Mankato Mortuary and at the church one hour before service. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
Eunice was born Eunice Gertrude Mathilda Bode to Henry C. and Maria (Friedrich) Bode in Vernon Center, MN on December 23, 1924. She was reborn as a child of God through baptism at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Willow Creek, MN on January 5, 1925 and confirmed there on April 10, 1938. She attended high school, graduating in 1942 and college, graduating in 1945, at Doctor Martin Luther College in New Ulm. Eunice taught third and fourth grade at Immanuel Lutheran School in Mankato from 1945-47. On June 29, 1947 she married Reuben C. Kroeger and together they farmed near Lake Washington until 1960 and then Hector until 1961. They were blessed with 3 daughters and 2 sons. Later they owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Sleepy Eye until 1977 when they semi-retired to Glenwood, MN. They retired to New Ulm, MN, in 1994. She married Robert Schwint in 2010 and lived in Springfield and Sleepy Eye until they separated. She lived in Mankato since 2013. Eunice was currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, was active in several church choirs and ladies groups through the years, and served as church organist for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, doing crossword puzzles, and playing piano and organ.
Eunice is survived by five children: Karla (Leif) Olmanson, Paul (Janice) Kroeger, Timothy Kroeger (life companion Gail Rixen), Kay (Dan) Morrison, Laurie Brenn; grandchildren, Alan, Eric (Tara), Jason, Sarah Olmanson, Owen, Adam (Emily), and Eric (Holly) Kroeger, Kayla (Mark) Schroeder, Krista, Michael (Mandi), and Jered (Alissa) Morrison, Samuel Brenn; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Cole, and Mariah Olmanson, Mataya and Mali Morrison, Adeline and Charlotte Kroeger, Amelia Morrison; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Rose Kroeger; brother-in-law, Donald Huebl and husband, Robert Schwint.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Kroeger in 2005; parents, Henry and Maria Bode; six brothers and spouses, John and Alice, Reinhold and Adeline, Henry and Edna, Gerhard and Dorothy, Roland and Esther, Eugene and Lorene and Lola; five sisters and spouses, Frieda and William Panning, Verona and Alvin Wuertz, Adelheid and Edward Biermann, Marie and Cornelius Burk, Irma and Paul Moeller; sisters-in-law, Ruth Huebl and Esther Heinze Bartsch; brother-in-law, Martin Kroeger; several nieces and nephews.
Eunice’s family would like to thank the staff at Cottagewood in Mankato, Dr. Thomas Brennan and the staff at Bluestone, Mayo Hospice, and the pastors of Immanuel, Mankato. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran College Student Aid Fund, Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Cottagewood Mankato; or the donor’s choice.
