Robert “Bob” James Meurer, 85 years old, of rural Mankato, passed away Monday night at home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born October 14, 1933 to Ralph and Dorothy (Cyphers) Meurer. He was raised on the family farm in Rapidan and graduated from Rapidan High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in the Philippines for 18 months. He was on the motor pool security detail.
Bob married Mary Adams on November 7, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf, MN. They were blessed with three daughters.
Bob worked at Honeymead as an oil refinery operator. He worked there 41 ½ years and retired in 1999.
Bob was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved hunting, fishing, rock hounding, Minnesota sports, and nature. His rock creations were very unique and will be part of his legacy. He built a beautiful wishing well, a gnome garden, a shrine to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a one-of-a-kind United States Rock Garden to name a few. The U.S. rock garden was nationally recognized on the World News.
Bob was a good man. He loved God, his family, and his country. He had a genuine smile that will long be remembered and many will miss.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Meurer of rural Mankato; three daughters, Melanie (Myron) Clintsman of Winsted, MN, Michele (Jim) Brewer of Richland Center, WI, and Natalie (Rob) Gunther of Mankato; three grandsons, Ty Clintsman, Logan Gunther, and Brandon Brewer; sister, Dorothy (Duane) Ziegler of Mankato; sister-in-law, Evelyn DeVine of Watertown, SD; brother-in-law, Donald (Rosalie) Adams of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Monday, October 29, 2018 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church where Bob was a charter member. Reverend Tim Reker and Deacon John Rudd will be officiating. Visitation will be 4-6pm, Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary and also one hour prior to Mass at church. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Please share a memory of Bob with his family at www.mankatomortuary.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Mankato Loyola Scholarship Fund, Mayo Clinic Music Therapy in Rochester, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, love, support, and prayers during this difficult two months.
