Dorothy Ann (Hemingway) Almlie Gage, age 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Mayo Health Care Center, in Mankato.  She had lived at New Perspective Independent Living, in Mankato for 2 years.

Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 501 S 2nd St, Mankato 56001 with family burial service to follow at Woodland Hills Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Centenary UMC, MRCI Auxilliary, or the donor’s choice.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born September 24, 1927, to Frank and Hazel (Brown) Hemingway in Winnebago as the fifth of the “8 Hemingway Girls”.  She graduated from Winnebago Public School in 1945 and spent a year in college in Indiana and, later, graduated from Mankato School of Cosmetology.  She practiced as a beautician for three years in Amboy and continued to hold her license until 1982.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Edsel I. “Ed” Almlie on May 1, 1949, in Winnebago, and they welcomed daughter, Mary Margaret, into their little family.  Together, they owned and ran the Star Cafe in Amboy, and Dorothy made 5 or 6 delicious pies every morning.  After they sold the cafe, and Ed went to work in Mankato, she joined the Willow Creek Telephone Company in Amboy and, eventually, moved to Mankato Citizens Telephone Company in 1957 as chief accountant.  She continued in that position until 1979.  Edsel died on November 17, 1971.  On September 7, 1974, she married F. Kelton “Kelly” Gage.  During the 43 years that they were married, she supported Kelly in his activities in many organizations, including MN Bar association Presidency, MSU Lifelong Learners, Riverblenders and Mankato Kiwanis and helped him to raise his son, L.J.  Dorothy was a member of Centenary UMC and volunteered at MRCI Thrift Store serving as treasurer on the MRCI Auxilliary board for many years.  She enjoyed dancing, golfing and working her “Sodukis”.  She enjoyed spending time with friends and loved being with her family.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her daughter, Mary Mertesdorf of Good Thunder; step-children, Debbie (Ron Rainey) Gage of San Jose, CA, Penny (Gary) Reinders of Centennial, CO, Amy (David Studer) Gage of St. Paul, and L.J.
