Robert John Rolfes, age 86, of Mankato, died on Monday, October 1, 2018 at his home. 


A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary.  Burial will be held at Woodland Hills Memorial Park at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to BENCHS in memory of Robert.


Robert was born on February 3, 1932 to Henry and Dorothy (Rinne) Rolfes in Charles City, IA.  Robert graduated from Charles City High School in 1950 and then graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, IA with a degree in accounting.  Robert farmed in Charles City for 10 years.  He was united in marriage to Doris Meier in Rockford, IA on July 31, 1955 and they were later divorced.  He married Mary Swanson on December 20, 1983 in North Mankato.  Robert worked in the accounting field for many years and retired as an accountant from George Carlstrom Construction in 2009. He was very involved over the years with Boy Scouts and with the Mankato Pow Wow from the very beginning.  Robert loved music, playing the trumpet, guitar, and piano.  He was also involved in the church choir.  He enjoyed magic and reading the daily funnies.  Most of all, Robert enjoyed time spent with family and his animals. 


Robert is survived by his wife, Mary of Mankato; children, Robert Jr. (Barbara) Rolfes of South St. Paul, Brian (Renee) Rolfes of Cottage Grove, and Kathryn (Robert) Goettl of Elizabeth, CO; grandchildren, Megan (Bryan) Vargas of Cottage Grove, Eliza Rolfes of St. Paul, Joshua (Jennifer) Rolfes of Eagan, Melissa (Joe) Jannetto of Rosemount, Mikara Goettl (Dave Fehrenbach) of Henderson, CO, Nikki Goettl of Scottsdale, AZ, and Aspen Goettl of Elizabeth, CO; great-grandchildren, Emily and Eli Vargas, Avery and Andrew Rolfes, Nora and Lainey Jannetto, Rian Rector, Lucas, Madison, Kinley, Julanica, and Grace Fehrenbach; sisters and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.


Robert was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brother, Irwin “Hoss” Seelye; and three nephews.
