Ruth Louise Schwardt was born April 27, 1961 in Fairmont, MN to John and Alice (Bergemann) Schwardt. She grew up in rural Madelia where she attended Willow Creek School through eighth grade. She graduated from Garden City Wellcome Memorial High School in 1979.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, September 14, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia. Memorial service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, September 15, 2018 at church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Reverend Greg Volbrecht will be officiating. She resided in Madelia all her adult life, having enjoyed working at various jobs. In December 1997, Ruth and Karen began their journey with Ma’s Cupboard. They closed the brick and mortar shop in 2006, but they continued their business on the road traveling seven states doing fairs, festivals, and craft shows.
Her passion was doing Hardanger, and some of her pieces have been sold around the world. Ruth also enjoyed reading and anything Josh Turner.
She is survived by her friend, Karen Maloney; mother, Alice Schwardt; sisters, Irene (Steve) McCabe and Susan Malterer; nephews, Tim (Susan) McCabe, Ben (Randee) McCabe, and David (Stephanie) Malterer; niece, Brittany (Zach) Hinrichs; five great-nephews; and six great-nieces.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father, John Schwardt; and brother-in-law, Keith Malterer; and grandparents.
