Dorothy May Severson, 102, of Mankato died on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Waters Edge in Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 720 S 2nd St., Mankato with Pastor Jay Dahlvang officiating. A lunch will follow the service. Interment will be on Sunday, September 30th 2:00 pm at Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, IA.
A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dorothy was born February 27, 1916 in Ashton, Iowa to William and Anna (Hartenhoff) McEnaney. She graduated from Larchwood High School in 1934. Dorothy and Lester were married on May 28, 1938, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988. They moved to Mankato in 1942 when Lester was hired by Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Dorothy was a homemaker. She loved to do needlework: knitting, crocheting, hardanger, tatting, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed writing poetry. Her baking skills were well known especially her pies and cookies and she was generous in sharing with friends and family. After retirement, they spent winters in Mesa AZ, enjoying friends, playing cards and square dancing. Over the years they traveled extensively in their Airstream trailer. Dorothy was a 25 year resident of Old Main Village and an active member of Bethlehem Church.
Her survivors include two daughters, Karen Flage of Centennial, CO and Gail (Jim) Christensen of Mankato; grandchildren, Jeffrey Severson (Vickie) of Belle Plaine, Daniel Severson (Theresa) of Hinckley, Carmen Severson (Cal) of Mesa, AZ, Scott Gremmert (Susan) of Redmond, WA, Mark Gremmert (Jennifer) of Centennial, CO, Anna Moses of Mankato, and Leah (Brandon) Michel of Mankato; five great grandchildren, Jason, Adam, Hannah, Ethan and Theo; 7 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Schroeder of Sioux Falls, SD.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; son, Leslie; son-in-law, Dr. L John Flage; and two great grandchildren, Jacob Severson and Chloe Moses. Her two brothers, Eugene McEnaney and Willis McEnaney and sister, Alice Egge also preceded her in death.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Native American Heritage Association or the Salvation Army.
