Eileen S. Traeger (née Schumann), long time Mankato resident, died after a brief hospitalization on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, September 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Rev. Eugene Glade and Rev. Adam Matheny officiating. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Eileen was born in Eyota, Minnesota on December 5, 1929 to Fred and Christina (Pries) Schumann. Eileen graduated from Eyota High School, received her Bachelors degree from Winona State University and received her Masters degree from Mankato State University.
She married John Traeger on July 12, 1958 in Eyota, Minnesota. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary before John went to his heavenly home in January 2011.
Eileen was a strong Christian who lived her faith daily. She had a joyful spirit and compassion for others which allowed her to serve others for over 40 years as a teacher, specializing in elementary special education and as a reading consultant for the Mankato school district.
She had enduring friendships, some that would last close to 70 years. To all, she will be remembered for her quick wit, good humor, great charm and her incomparable baking skills. She created an enduring legacy through the memories she helped to craft with others, and the character she nurtured in those whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her children, Julie (Bob, Jr.) Lilly of Dallas, TX, Jack (Lisa) Traeger of Dallas, TX, Lisa Traeger of London, UK, and Beth (Leo) Fernandez of Eden Prairie; 12 grandchildren, Rob Traeger, Andrew (Kallee) Traeger, Caroline Traeger, Madeleine Traeger, Jackson Traeger, Clare Traeger, Mikaela Fernandez, Grace Fernandez, Alex Fernandez, Eli Fernandez, Robert (Beau) Lilly III and Brandon Lilly; one great-grandchild, Shawnee Traeger; sisters-in-law Margie Schumann and Rotha Schumann; and many nieces and nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, John Traeger; her parents, Fred and Christina Schumann; brother, Adolph Schumann; brother, Alfred Schumann and his wife, Helen; sister, Helen Woodward and her husband, Bill; sister, Maxine Kaehler and her husband, Don; brother, Milton Schumann and his wife, Rosie.
