Mickee left this life she loved so well on Sunday, August 26, 2018.  She was 97.  A celebration of her wonderful life will be 11 am Friday, August 31 at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Mankato, with visitation one hour before the service.

Arrangements are being completed by the Mankato Morutary.

Born July 10, 1921, to Grace and Jab Lloyd in Minneapolis, she moved with her family to Mankato at age 7.  She attended Roosevelt, Lincoln and Mankato High schools, graduating in 1939.  She went to Rockford College in Illinois on a full-tuition scholarship, but after one year, she transferred to the University of Minnesota.  She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  She later graduated from Moser Business College in Chicago, where she worked briefly at General Mills. She returned to Minneapolis in 1943, working as an executive secretary at Minneapolis Honeywell, until she left in 1946 to marry Bill Steiner, who had just returned from active duty in the south Pacific with the US Marines. Mickee and Bill met in junior high. They had two sons, Peter and Bill, Jr.

When both sons were in school, Mickee returned to work for her brother as executive secretary at Lloyd Lumber.  After brother Bob’s death, she continued to work for Lloyd Management until ten days after her 97th birthday.  Mickee always believed that family and work were the keys to a good life.

She was very active at First Presbyterian Church, becoming an ordained Elder and working on numerous committees.  She and Bill led the Junior High youth group for seven years.  For eighty years, she could always be found Sunday mornings in the third pew on the left side of the sanctuary. Mickee also volunteered for six decades at the local hospital (now Mayo), working first as a Gray Lady, and later in the gift shop.

She and Bill loved dancing and were for years members of the Benedicts’ Dance Club.  She also worked on the March of Dimes campaign for several years.

Mickee is survived by sons Peter (wife Jeanne) and Billy (wife Patti), grandchildren Grace (Matt) Nohner, Julia (Derek) Fette, and Dylan Steiner, and great-grandchildren, Eva and William Nohner and Larissa Fette.  She also loved niece Louise Loosbrock and nephew Craig Lloyd and their families as her own.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, brothers Bob and Dick and their wives Ledlie and Faye, nephew Larry Lloyd and granddaughter Lauren.

The family gratefully acknowledges all the warm and wonderful cards and visits Mickee received from friends and colleagues, which cheered her in her final days.  The family also acknowledges the kind nursing staff and Palliative Care staff at Mayo Mankato Hospital, her Hospice nurses, and the kind staff at Pathstone Living.

Memorials may be made to the Lloyd Steiner Scholarship Fund at Minnesota State-Mankato, the Coach Bill Steiner Fund at Loyola High School, the Music Program at First Presbyterian, or First Fridays at First Presbyterian lecture series, which Mickee faithfully attended.  She never stopped learning.
