Joseph Nefzger age 90 of Mankato died Thursday August 16, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday August 22, 2018 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be given to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church (105 North 5th Street, Mankato, MN 56001) or the donor’s choice. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

 Joseph Nefzger was born May 11, 1928 to Joseph and Walburga (Goepple) Nefzger in Liebersdorf, Bavaria, Germany. Joe was trained in agriculture and later learned his trade as an electrician. His mother’s sister, Sister Evodia Goepple who was a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital encouraged Joe to pursue his trade in America which brought him to Mankato. Joe was united in marriage to Helga Kilb on April 26, 1959 in Niederselters, Germany. Joe and Helga moved to Mankato where he began his career working for Mankato Electric.  He did long term contract work for various companies, the longest of which was ADM of Mankato. Joe retired in 1995. He was an active member of SS Peter and Paul and the IBEW. Joe enjoyed gardening, investing and following the markets.

 Joe possessed a strong work ethic that he passed on to his family.

 Survived by his wife, Helga of Mankato; three children, Charlotte Nefzger of Mankato, Joey (Karin) Nefzger of Erlanger, KY, Mike (Susan) Nefzger of Fayetteville, AR; five grandchildren, Christian, Lisa, David, Bobby and Kelly; brother, Alois (Gerdi) Nefzger; sister, Walburga “Wally” Wagner both of Germany; nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

 Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Franz.
