Gerald “Gerry” Frank Doring, age 72, of Mankato, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 19216 Rapidan Avenue in Rapidan, Minnesota. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, Minnesota and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.

Gerry was born on March 9, 1946 to Ervin and Annemarie (Friedrichs) Doring in Mankato, Minnesota. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1964. He served in the United States Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he earned the Purple Heart medal.  On June 12, 1971 he married Mary Jane Gag at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Mankato, Minnesota. Gerry worked 30 years for the Internal Revenue Service, and retired in December of 2003. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion. Gerry was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan, Minnesota.

Gerry volunteered as a softball coach for the Special Olympics for many years. He enjoyed camping, golfing, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and wintering in Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Mary of 47 years; son, Craig (Mandi) Doring of Owatonna; grandchildren, Colin, Caden, and Macie Doring; brother, Paul (Lorraine) Doring of Mankato; sister, Ann (John) Granholt of New Auburn, Wisconsin; brothers-in-law, Marvin (Myrna) Gag of Mankato, Larry (Irene) Gag of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Patty Blair of Mankato, Nancy (Steven) Braun of Mankato as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gerry is preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, and brother-in-law, Steven Blair.
