Peter “Bud” Gremmer, age 84 passed away August 10, 2018 at Mayo Health Center, Mankato. Bud was the only child of Peter and Tillie (Engelen) Gremmer. At a young age, Bud and his family moved to Minnesota. They eventually moved to Vernon Center after a 1946 tornado destroyed the family business, The Green Gables Cabin, near Mankato.
Bud graduated from Garden City High School before joining the United States Army. Bud served from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed for a time in Europe. After returning from his military service, he worked with his parents at their gas station and small engine repair shop located in Vernon Center. Bud was also a school bus driver and a volunteer fireman. He was instrumental in having a well-trained rescue squad as part of the Vernon Center Fire Department.
Bud was an avid sports fan, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He spent many hours fishing the river for catfish off the bridge south of Vernon Center and enjoyed visiting with area residents during his Saturday morning job.
Bud spent the last seven years at Parker Oaks Assisted Living in Winnebago, MN. He is survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Grave side service will be on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Vernon Center Cemetery.
