Alpha Mae Nelson, age 91, of Mankato and formerly of St. Clair, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Laurel’s Peak Rehabilitation Center, Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Front Street East, St. Clair, MN with Rev. Matthew Grunewald officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, St. Clair. Memorials preferred to the family or to the National Kidney Foundation.

Alpha was born on January 1, 1927 in Lanesboro, MN to Alfred and Mae (Case) Johnson. On November 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Marvin Nelson in Lanesboro.  They made their home and raised their two children in St. Clair.

Alpha enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, camping, fishing and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Clair American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. As a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Clair, Alpha served on the Lady’s Aid board.

Alpha is lovingly survived by her children, DeLayne (Julie) Nelson of Mankato, MN and Curt (Kristi) Nelson of Burnsville, MN; grandchildren, Stacy (Joe) Stone of Mapleton, MN, Alyssa Nelson of Burnsville, MN and Lucas Nelson of Burnsville, MN; cousin, Tom Severson of Winona, MN; nieces and nephews, Cindy Larck of Dillsworth, MN, Heidi Hehr of Northfield, MN, Kevin Johnson of Sandstone, MN, Lyle Johnson of Oak Grove, MN and Jerry Johnson of Aitkin, MN.

Alpha is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Nelson; parents; brothers, Arthur Johnson and Donald Johnson; nephew, Lyman Johnson; niece, Cheryl Johnson.
