LeRoy Sohre, 94 of Good Thunder, went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2018. He was a resident at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton, Minnesota.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. Burial with military honors will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Good Thunder. Visitation will be held from 9:30am until the time of service at the church. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
LeRoy was born September 12, 1923 to Arthur and Martha (Tischer) Sohre in rural Good Thunder. He graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1941. On September 27, 1944 he married Arladene Kleinbeck in Mapleton. He served in the United States Army in Okinawa during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 616. LeRoy was also a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder and served on the church council and school board.
LeRoy enjoyed farming in rural Good Thunder and fishing in northern Minnesota. He treasured time with family. LeRoy's strong faith in the Lord sustained him throughout his life especially during the last 15 years when he could no longer walk and needed a motorized scooter. LeRoy often stated “I woke up this morning and God gave me another day and that is good.”
LeRoy is survived by four children, Sandra (Howard) Kantack of Bemidji, MN, Loren (Diane) Sohre of Good Thunder, Dean (Laureen) Sohre of Mapleton, and Lynn Sohre of Good Thunder; six grandchildren, Ken (Shannon) Kantack, Kari (Ekren) Kantack Miller, Mike (Nancy) Sohre, Matt (Kelly) Sohre, Melissa (Colby) Winkler and Dan (Teresa) Sohre; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Glen (Marianne) Sohre; sister-in-law, Betty Kleinbeck of Albert Lea; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Arladene; infant son, Dale; two sisters, Elverna Schimmele and Viona Holtz; and three brothers, Lester, Elmer, and Merlin.
