Mary Ann Norman, age 87, lifelong Lake Crystal area resident, died peacefully, Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato, MN.
Funeral Service Celebrating Mary Ann’s Life will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at the church and one hour before service on Thursday. Private family interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cornerstone United Methodist Church or the LCWM Secondary School Music Department.
Mary Ann was born May 9, 1931 to Leighton Lee and Esther Hannah (Ellis) Croswell in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1949. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Ellis “Al” Eugene Norman on April 9, 1950 at her parent’s home. Mary Ann started playing piano and organ for church services at Carmel Presbyterian Church, rural Lake Crystal as a teenager. She began playing piano and organ for services at First United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal after her marriage to Ellis, until just recently; playing for 67 years. Mary Ann taught piano lessons for many years holding her last student recital this last May. Over the years she has played for countless funerals, weddings, and other gatherings. Mary Ann was a 4-H leader, Eastern Star member, United Methodist Women member, where she held offices in the local, district, and state offices, AFS Organization host and chaperone. She enjoyed knitting, playing Bridge and 500, coffee with her friends, and was an active supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s various activities.
Mary Ann is survived by her five children, Jean (Tim) Wilson of Mesa, AZ, Jack (Deb) Norman of Elysian, Carol (Dave) Reedstrom of Mankato, Dennis (Judy) Norman of Prior Lake, and David Norman of Brunswick, Maryland; AFS student, Ivo (Pam) Bemelmans of Lutz, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Ben (Natalie) Peine, Erin (Kevin) Harryman, Kendall Norman, Katie Norman, Vicki Reedstrom, Drew Reedstrom, Kyle (Jessica) Reedstrom, Jessica (Eric) Hafemeyer, Kellie (Aaron) Koch, Lindsay (Matt) Gergen; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Croswell of North Mankato and Maxine Norman of Lake Crystal; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Al; parents; brother, John Croswell; sister, Eleanor (Alun) Thomas; two brothers-in-law, George (Florence) Norman and Willys “Bill” Norman.
