Howard Oestreich

Howard P. Oestreich, age 94 of North Mankato, died peacefully on Monday July 9, 2018 at Monarch Meadows.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements. 

Howard P. Oestreich was born August 19, 1923 to Paul and Selma (Lueck) Oestreich in Waseca. He graduated from Waseca High School. Howard served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Margaret Baker on November 5, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marysburg.

Howard worked for 35 years at Continental Can in Mankato. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #11, Last Man Club and the IAM union.  Howard enjoyed photography, piano, music, and sang in the Men’s Church Choir at church.

Howard is survived by two children, Ann (Scotty) Dieteman of Madison Lake, Todd (Diana) Oestreich of North Mankato; five grandchildren, Cory (Crystal) Simondet, Sarah (Josh) Hutchens, Maggie (Tony) Cruz, Mitchell (his fiancé Megan English) Oestreich, Jenna Oestreich; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Iverson and Gretchen Jensen; brother-in-law, Pat Hofer; many nieces nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents, grandson, Josh and sister Barbara Hofer.
