Gary Lee Zimmerman
Gary Lee Zimmerman, 77, of Mankato, died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato after a lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm, Friday, July 13, 2018 at Mankato Mortuary and also one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice. Gary was born September 19, 1940 in Mankato to Chester and Myrtle (Rosenberg) Zimmerman. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1958. Gary was united in marriage to Charlene Matheson on June 29, 1963 in Frost, MN, and they were blessed with three children. He worked as a lineman for Northern States Power Company, later Xcel Energy, for many years until retiring in 1998.
In his spare time, Gary enjoyed bow hunting; fishing; riding motorcycles and antique cars; watching MN sports, especially the Vikings, Twins, Wild, and Timberwolves; and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charlene Zimmerman of Mankato; daughters, Ann (Patrick) McCall of Madelia and Amy (Rodney) LaFreniere of Hastings; son, Jeffrey (Andrea) Zimmerman of Mankato; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Roger (Pat) Zimmerman of Mankato and Thomas (Judy) Zimmerman of Southaven, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Myrtle Zimmerman; 3 brothers; and an infant grandson.
