Norbert “Rocky” Schoenrock, 92 of Mankato, died July 5, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.
Rocky was born June 21, 1926 to Edward and Ella Schoenrock in Freedom Township, Waseca County. At the age of 14, he started working as a carpenter until serving his country in the Army in 1948. He was in the Army Engineers being Head Draftsman and Blueprint Operator until his honorable discharge on November 8, 1954. He enrolled at Mankato Teachers College and earned both at BS and MS Degree in Industrial Arts and Art Education. He taught 2 years at Plainview High School and then taught at the Mankato School System for 29 years. He received two patents on is inventions of a Safety Shield and Duplicator in the use of the wood Lathe. He was a master wood carver, a fishing guide, and an avid hunter.
Rocky married Ruth Shay on May 16, 1953 and they celebrated 65 years together. They enjoyed attending dances together and shared their interest in art.
Rocky is survived by his wife, Ruth; sister, Mildred Broin; brother, Maynard; and nieces, cousins, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; and brother-in-law, Orlando Broin.
