Longtime District 77 educator, Ruth Janet Nuessle died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Mankato.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at Centenary United Methodist Church (501 South 2nd Street, Mankato) with visitation one hour prior. A reception will follow the service at the church. Private family graveside service will take place at Springfield City Cemetery. Ruth was born to Dr. Walter and Helen (Nippolt) Nuessle on April 10, 1920 in Springfield, Minnesota. She graduated from Springfield High School, received a two year degree from Mankato Teachers College, a four year degree from Mankato State College and a Masters from Mankato State University. Ruth taught in Roseau, Waseca, and Albert Lea before coming to Mankato in 1949. She loved teaching at Lincoln and Jefferson Elementary schools before retiring in 1982.
Ruth was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, active in Wesleyson Service Guild, Circles, and United Methodist Women. She was a state guild officer and had leadership roles in Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Kato Hiking Club, Zetetic (Greek Seeker of Truth) Study Club and a lifetime member of Minnesota Educators Association and the National Educators Association. She was a member of various other community and educator groups.
Ruth spent twenty summers at her lake home on Horseshoe Lake near Brainerd. For several years, she was a volunteer for Blue Earth County Historical Society, MRCI Thrift Shop, Red Cross Blood Bank, and ISJ Gift Shop. Other interests included traveling, crafts, bridge, reading, hiking, painting, and Mother Nature.
Ruth is survived by her brother, Dr. William Nuessle of Duluth; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters, and two sisters-in-law.
