Ted Kenneth Mathews, age 78, of Mankato, died Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato. Interment will be in Savidge Lake Cemetery, rural Cleveland. Memorials may be given to the NRA or Pheasants Forever. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Ted Kenneth was born April 17, 1940 to Theodore R. and Violet M. (Sellers) Mathews in Glendale, CA. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1958. Ken was united in marriage to Karen Baker on November 28, 1989. Ken served his country with the US Army from 1963-65 and was a marksman. Ken was a Master Carpenter, building homes with his Dad and later owned K & K Cleaning with his wife. He built and flew model airplanes, enjoyed fishing, trapping, and hunting – duck, turkey, deer, fox, pheasant, rabbits, and squirrel. He played billiards, league, and trick shots and played against, Willie Musconi. Ken loved limericks and jokes and had a nickname for everyone. He was a proud member of the NRA and Pheasants Forever. He loved sharing his skills with others.
Ken is survived by his wife, Karen; two children, Stacey (Daniel) Williams of North Mankato, Owen (Angie) Mathews of Mayer, AZ; four step-children, Mike (Bev) Peters of Eagle Lake, Jim (Jennifer) Peters of Owatonna, Michelle Johnson of North Mankato, Sherry (Paul) Johnson of Mankato; grandchildren, Tabitha Valenzuela, Cherish and Jadde Williams, Megan and Allison Mathews, Alicia (Andy) Quaday, Sara Peters (Matt Sultze), Bryce and Mackenzie Peters, Stephanie and Mitchell Johnson, Chase, Jake, and Luke Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Jace Williams and Quinn Quaday; two brothers, Richard (Sandi) Mathews of Canyon Lake, CA, Donald (Susie) Mathews of AZ; brother-in-law, Danny Gjerde of Rio Linda, CA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Joanne Baker, Cheri and Frank Korteum, Steve and Theresa Baker, Greg Baker, Kevin and Shannon Baker, Geoff Baker; nieces and nephews; beloved doggie, Annie.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Gjerde; parents-in-law, Bill and Myrna Baker; sister-in-law, Nancy Baker.
