Violet Elizabeth (Gleason) Hudson, 102 of Mankato, died May 22, 2018 at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at St John's Episcopal Church, 302 Warren St., in Mankato. Burial will follow at Windom Memory Garden in Windom. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.
Vi was born February 3, 1916 in Springfield, Minnesota to Walter Orrin and Emma (Wendt) Gleason. Violet was the seventh oldest of 12 children. She lived her formative years in Currie, Minnesota. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1933. She continued her education at Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota graduating as a Registered Nurse. It was in Rochester that she met the love of her life, Richard ‘Dick’ Hudson. They were married shortly thereafter. Violet became a mother (son, Gary) in 1939 while Richard became a Highway Patrol Officer. The new family was stationed in several communities before being stationed in Windom, Minnesota in 1945.
In the early 50’s, Violet went back to work at the Windom Hospital, serving as Hospital Administrator for more than 10 years. Vi and Dick continued to live in Windom while spending summer vacations in Northern Minnesota, Colorado, and the western mountain states. Dick retired after 32 years on the patrol. He continued to work as a dispatcher for Jackson County until his death in February 1983. Violet continued to live in Windom until 1998, when she moved to Mankato to be closer to her son’s family. Her last years were spent at Laurels Peak Nursing Home. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.
Vi was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters; and husband, Dick.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Helen) Hudson of Mankato; grandchildren, Lisa (David) Olson of Apple Valley, Jarret Hudson of Mankato, Christopher (Tina Wallace) Hudson of Amboy; great-grandsons, Daniel, Andrew, and Marvin Hudson all of Amboy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
