Preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Allison Morris, Barb is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Rottunda; three children from her first marriage; David (Amy) Lyons, Chanhassen, MN, Lori (Greg) Reynolds, LaGrange, IL, Molly (Brad) Sween, San Francisco, CA; two step daughters, Sara (John Butler) Rottunda, St Paul, MN, and Amy (Jeff Steiner) Rottunda, Waconia, MN; her brother, James (Lynn) Morris, Evanston, IL; six granddaughters, Riley Lyons, Grace, Isabelle and Chloe Reynolds, Madeline and Abby Sween and two grandsons, Finley and Renner Johnson, Waconia, MN.
Barb was born October 14, 1942 in Mankato, MN. She graduated from Mankato West High School in 1960, and from Minnesota State University Mankato in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She devoted herself to raising her children with kindness and love that prepared them for college educations, successful careers, and families of their own. After they were launched into the world she worked at Lloyd Management, a property management company run by her father for several years.
On January 18, 1986 she married John Rottunda and they began their life together, golfing, traveling to their favorite destination, Hawaii, and socializing with their many friends. Upon retirement they spent winters at Tonto Verde, Arizona where many new friendships were added primarily due to Barb’s smile and outgoing personality. She was instrumental in forming the first Hand and Foot Card group at Tonto Verde, while fine tuning her golf game with the Pink Ladies and the Kachina’s. The kitchen at their home was often dark while they both enjoyed eating out as often as possible. Whether it was at IN-N-OUT Burger, or the Tonto Clubhouse the many restaurant choices around Scottsdale offered new culinary experiences which they enjoyed together. Followed by evenings on the patio with a glass of wine, watching the moon rise over the Mazatzal Mountains then closing the night off with a book and her favorite TV shows. Each May they returned to Minnesota where she enjoyed the same activities with their hometown friends.
During her short illness Barb received so many cards and greetings from AZ and MN friends. They helped to cheer her up and she found comfort from them all.
The family wishes to thank the Mayo Health System and the amazing nursing staff for their compassionate and professional care of Barb. They minimized her pain and kept her smiling through all her days.
An open reception honoring Barb’s life will be held at the Mankato Golf Club on, June 10, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. Memorials if desired may be directed to the Mayo Health System, Palliative Medicine, Mayo Health System Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
