Georgina was born Aug 22, 1924 in Osek (Osijek) Yugoslavia. She moved to Belgrade when she was 9 years old and went to elementary and high school in Belgrade, graduating in 1943. She was a talented gymnast preparing to compete in the Olympics but was interrupted by the start of the Second World War during her senior year. She could only go to school once a week because the military took over the school building as their headquarters. But she was still able to graduate. She went to Belgrade Technical University in 1945 and graduated in 1950 with a degree in architecture. In 1952, she married Joseph Friedman and immigrated to Israel where their first child, Dalila, was born April 15, 1954. Georgina worked as an architect and Joseph worked as an olive tree pruner. In 1954 they immigrated to Italy. Their second child, Mark Louis Peter, was born there April 22, 1956. From there they immigrated to Brazil in 1956. Joseph worked as manager of a fabric company and medical supply company. In 1957 they immigrated to the U.S. where they lived with Georgina’s parents, Elza and Ludwig. Ludwig was an artist in Yugoslavia and continued painting in the U.S. He also designed furniture for a furniture company.
In 1958, Georgina moved to Coon Rapids and worked as an interior designer for a restaurant supply company. Her next job was draftsman at The Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA). Finally, she got a job as an architect at Cooperman Architecture Company where she worked for 25 years. Later she worked for Toushy Montgomery Architects where she helped design Paisley Park. She was also a talented knitter, crocheter and artist.
She is survived by son, Mark Friedman, Mankato; daughter-in-law, Jane Dow, Mankato; daughter, Dalila Friedman, Minneapolis; grandson, Adam (Jenny) Friedman and great-granddaughter Ava, Plymouth; grandson, Aaron Friedman, Berkely California, Andrew Friedman and wife Su Lee, New York, New York; granddaughter, Amy Friedman, Los Angeles.
Preceded in death by husband, Joseph Friedman, Mankato; parents, Elza Glatter and Louis Seterlajn, Minneapolis.
