Bernice C. Ward
Although you are gone, you will never be forgotten, as your memory will always remain in the hearts and minds of all those whose lives you touched.
Bernice C. Ward, 100 died Friday, May 11, 2018 at her daughter’s home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 15, 2018 at Grace Baptist Church in Mankato. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery in St. Clair. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Baptist Church, Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice, or St. John’s Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Bernice (Juliar) Ward was born on September 20, 1917 in Mankato to John and Inez (Wolter) Juliar. She graduated from St. Clair School in 1934. She later attended Mankato Vo-Tech School in the Nurse Assistant Program. On June 24, 1936, she married Elwyn D. Ward in St. Clair.
Bernice worked for many years on the farm with her husband and she enjoyed her large vegetable and flower gardens. Bernice also worked at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital as a nurse assistant for a number of years. She was active in the Ladies Aid Society and church choir at the Methodist Church in St. Clair. She always put others before herself. She enjoyed her life and having family come home. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. Bernice went to live with her daughter in 1998 after the death of her husband.
Bernice is survived by two children: Richard (Helen) Ward of Mankato and Sharon Hanson of Mankato; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great- grandchildren, Cindy (Marty) Kern, Elise, Brianna, Adam and Blake; Kelly (Jeff) Johnson, Dustin, Dylan and Kourtney; Michael (Tara) Ward, Mason, Tori and Austin; Colleen (Bradley) Reich, Joshua, Caleb and Kaden; Daniel (Kristi) Ward, Jalen, Haley and Geno; Sarah (Steve) Morrison, Amelia; Lisa (Joshua) Rucker, Jacob and Christopher; Lori (Benjamin) Port, Sydney, Grace, Mariah and Calista; Jason (Pam) Oslund; Jeffery (Krystal) Hanson and two great, great-grandchildren. Bernice is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez Juliar; her husband, Elwyn in 1998, two brothers, Russell and Melbourne Juliar, her sister, Eileen Bestmann, seven sisters-in-laws and five brothers-in-laws.
