Ronald Eugene Fisher, age 71, of Eagle Lake, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Funeral Service 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018 at Mt Olive Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery.
Ron was born November 14, 1946, to Richard and Norma (Smith) Fisher in Decatur, IL. He graduated from MacArthur High School in 1964. Ron served his country in the US Army as a heavy equipment operator in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge from service, he attended junior college in Illinois and later graduated from Mankato State University.
On May 10, 1980, Ron was united in marriage to Elli Jaster at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with one son.
Ron worked as an apprentice lineman for several years doing high line electrical construction work in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
He was also employed at Sween Corporation and retired from CenterPoint Energy in 2009. Ron enjoyed camping, fishing, and watching sports. He also had a “soft spot” for animals.
Ron is survived by his wife, Elli of nearly 38 years; son, Joseph of Mankato; mother and brother, Norma and David of Decatur, IL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Helmut (Wanda) Jaster, Erwin (Laurel) Jaster, Margaret Hicks, and Walter (Lisa) Jaster; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; mother-in-law, Herta Jaster, relatives and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Richard; father-in-law, Karl Jaster; brother-in-law, Thomas Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Andreas Cancer Center, Mayo Health System Palliative Care Hospice Program, or Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS).
