Geraldine “Jerre” Berens, 83 of Mankato, died March 27, 2018 at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date. The family prefers memorials be given to the Salvation Army, Echo Food Shelf, or VINE.
Jerre was born September 8, 1934 to Philip and Margaret (Clinton) Simonett in Cleveland, Minnesota. She grew up with her siblings, Mary Ann, Alice, and Tim. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1952. On May 26, 1955 Jerre married Peter “Gil” Berens. Together they raised 8 children.
Jerre was employed by Standard Oil Co., Green Giant, and retired from Professional Systems. In her free time, Jerre enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking for family. She will be remembered as an intelligent, beautiful, and a great mother and grandmother.
Jerre is survived by her children, Molly (Rich) Christensen of Mankato, Meg (Bob) Oberle of Le Sueur, Mike (Deb) Berens of St. Leonard, Maryland, Pat (Craig) Dumdei of Mankato, Kitty (Scott) Hickok of Minnetonka, Jim Berens of Star Prairie, Wisconsin, and Ann (Tim Dvorak) of Minnetonka; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Alice Hermer of Mankato and Tim Simonett of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Casey Berens; and sister, Mary Ann Borneke.
