Bernard "Bernie" Thomsen

Bernard “Bernie” Thomsen died March 22, 2018 on his 85th birthday.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Bernie was born on March 22, 1933 in Bismarck, ND to Edith (Quist) and Thomas Thomsen. He graduated from Minot High School in 1951. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 and worked for MNDOT for 37 years. On May 25, 1956 he married Yvonne Marshall in Mankato where they lived until moving to Nicollet in 2014.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post 950 and Christ the King Lutheran Church. Bernie enjoyed bowling, playing cards, golfing and working on various creative projects. His greatest joy was watching his four grandsons as they played sports and participated in other activities.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Yvonne; children, Terry (Liz) Thomsen, Dawn (Jeff) Cunningham, Thomas (Angela) Thomsen; grandchildren, Justin (Danielle) Cunningham, Gavin, Ean and Colton Thomsen; siblings, Kenneth (Carol) Thomsen, Thomas (Sandy) Thomsen, Janice Willman, Marlys Jasperson, Carol Broadbent; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley.
