Daniel was born on December 8, 1953 in Willmar, Minnesota to parents Wendell and Vernice Wessman.  His family moved to Mankato in 1964.   He attended Mankato Public Schools, graduating in 1971 from Wilson Campus High School.  His interest in music began in his teens, teaching himself piano and keyboards, forming many bands with his friends.  His music career spanned over fifty years, most notably with The Shaw Band and recently with The Powerhouse Band.   In 2006, The Shaw Band was inducted into the Minnesota Rock and Country Hall of Fame.

He married Carol Hartwell in May 2000 and together they raised one daughter, Jessica. He was an accomplished carpenter, having remodeled several of his family's homes. When not playing music or working construction, he enjoyed over thirty years as a member of the C&N Sales Pool Leagues.  He was proud to be a part of a successful tournament team. Throughout his life he enjoyed many activities including softball, fishing, golf, and playing cards with the neighbors.

Danny had a kind and generous spirit and was a great friend to many.  He had a wry sense of humor and enjoyed sharing a laugh with others usually at their own expense.   He loved sharing his music with others and was appreciative of his family and friends.

Daniel is survived by wife, Carol and daughter, Jessica of Mankato; sisters, Mary (Robert) Hess of Luther, Michigan and Rebecca Wessman of Mankato;  nephews, James, Chad, Ian, and Calum;  nieces, Molly and Coral.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Wessman.
