Roger D. Miller, age 91, of Mankato died Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Mapleton Community Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday March 16, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, Belview, MN. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, March 15 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Belview, MN. Memorials may be given to the Mapleton Community Home Chapel Fund or Mayo Clinic Hospice – Mankato.

Roger Dean Miller was born February 4, 1927, at Wayland, Iowa to Jacob E. and Bertha (Sandberg) Miller. His parents moved to Minnesota when he was one year old to a farm southeast of Belview, MN. He attended country school at District 28 East. In 1938 his parents moved to a farm southwest of Belview where he attended school at District 28 West. He graduated from Belview High School in 1944. He went into the US Army in May 1945. Due to a farm accident in the family, he was honorably discharged the following September.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Dean Bunting on September 5, 1948. They made their home on the Farm south of Belview. They were blessed with four children, Alan, Jeff, Jean, and Connie. They were all baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belview. Roger was usher and served on the church council for several years. The two Lutheran churches in Belview merged and built a new church, Grace Lutheran. Roger taught Sunday school and was involved with the Bethel Bible Service, which was presented to the congregation. In September 1967, Roger was appointed Postmaster at the Belview Post Office. In January 1969 he transferred to be a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Minnesota Rural Mail Carriers, and of the Redwood County Rural Mail Carriers. Roger retired from the Postal Service in July 1993. The family enjoyed many years on Green Lake and Lake Florida in rural Spicer, MN. In 1998 Roger and Dorothy celebrated 50 years of marriage at Grace Lutheran Church. They moved to Mankato and became members of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Roger served on the Church in Society Committee. Dorothy died December 23, 2009.

Roger is survived by his four children, Alan (Connie) Miller of Buffalo, Jeff Miller of Mankato, Jean (Wayne “Butch”) Fuder of Foxhome, MN, Connie (Tim) Ziegler of Mankato; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kami) Miller of Eagan, Greg (Kaycee) Fuder of Foxhome, MN and Mike Fuder of Denver, CO, Alexandra (Cory) Nickels, Nick and Cassie Ziegler all of Mankato, David (Joy) Gess Jr. of Big Lake; great grandchildren, Anna and Jake Miller, Kai and Cassius Nickels, Alexis and Connor Gess, Kaiden and Chase Wickoren; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hanson of Winthrop; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; four siblings, LaVern Miller, Raymond Miller, Polly Larson, and Louise Abbas.
