Geraldine (Geri) Marie Barnett died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato Hospital.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, in Lake Crystal, continuing one hour prior to the service. Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, with burial at Minneopa Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Cornerstone United Methodist Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
Geri was born February 4, 1930 in Mankato to William John and Anna Marie (Schaub) Street. She attended Franklin Grade School and graduated from Mankato High School in 1948. She started working part-time at Brett’s Department Store during her junior year and, after graduating, worked full-time for seven years as a cashier and bookkeeper. She met her husband, Alfred LeRoy Barnett (Lake Crystal) at the Imperial Rink roller skating arena in 1947 and were married on August 11, 1950 at Centenary United Methodist Church, Mankato. She left Brett’s in 1954 to raise a family on the farm, her home for the last 59 years. She was an active member of the Corner Stone United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the Ester Ruth Circle. She also volunteered at the GRACE Thrift Store. She enjoyed spending time with her family, including her grandchildren, Aric, Arin, Sarah, Jennifer, Christina, Breanna, Joleen, Danielle, Selena and Alex; and her great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Carter, McKinley, Gavin, Lennyn, Carson and Bergyn. Geri also enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaining family for the holidays as well as yardwork, gardening and canning her vegetables.
She is survived by her four sons, Randy (Madonna) Woodbury, Steven (Kathy) Lake Crystal, Brian (Ellen) Maple Grove, and Alan (Shelia) Mankato. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred (Bud), brothers and sisters, Helen Johnson (John), Lavern Sullivan (Robert), Willard Street (Irene), Harold Street, Lloyd Street (Vonda), Dorothy Sheely (Vernon), Delores Statham (Harvey), Lorraine Warner (Lyle), Marvin Street; brother and sister in-laws, Mabel Pottsmith (Kenneth), Vera Jepsen (Melvin), Irene Pavey (Dilver), Hazel Padgett, Frank Barnett (Mary Lou), Ruth Williams (Donald), Edythe Stahnke (Herbert), Mildred Askea (William), and Eunice (Andy).
