Robert William Rose, age 93, of Mankato passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at New Perspectives.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 501 S 2nd St, Mankato, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church as well. Burial will take place at Glenwood Cemetery.
Robert William Rose was born August 12, 1924 in Hastings, Michigan to Irving and Arvilla (Churchill) Rose. Bob served in the US Navy from August 12, 1941 until he was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945. Bob was united in marriage to Luella M. Davis on August 25, 1945 in Mankato. They made their home in Mankato and raised three children, John, James, and Ron. Robert worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years, 18 of which he was a rural mail carrier. Robert had also been employed with Carlson Craft for 11 years. After retiring, Robert and his wife, Luella, wintered in Texas for 14 years.
Robert was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, ushered, and served on various church commissions. He was a member of the American Legion Post 11 for 71 years and also the DAV. He was a former member of the Mankato Police Reserves and had taught Red Cross First Aid for many years. Robert had been Scout Master for Troop 12 for many years and received the Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed golfing, reading, and was a sports fan. Robert was the first recipient of the Service to Mankind Award from Sertoma Club.
Robert is survived by his three sons and their wives, John (Maureen) Rose of Omaha, Nebraska, James (Praunee) Rose of Shakopee, Ron (Rosie) Rose of Eagle Lake; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Luella Rose; parents; 8 siblings and granddaughter, Cheri.
Memorials preferred to Centenary United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts or New Perspectives – Mankato.
