John William Schwardt, age 87 of Madelia, died peacefully February 14, 2018 at Lutheran Memorial Home in Madelia.

 

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia with Rev. Greg Volbrecht officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fieldon. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service ALL at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia.

 

John William Schwardt was born April 27, 1930 to John P. and Alvina (Meyer) Schwardt in Pomeroy, Iowa. In 1933 the family moved to Minnesota. John served his country in the US Army from 1951 and was discharged in 1953. He was united in marriage to Alice Bergemann on December 5, 1954 at St. John Lutheran in Willow Creek. John was a farmer all his life and he enjoyed it. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fieldon. John truly enjoyed his loving family.

 

John is survived by wife, Alice; three daughters, Irene (Steve) McCabe of Sanborn, Ruth Schwardt of Madelia, and Susan Malterer of Janesville; grandchildren, Timothy (Susan) McCabe, Benjamin (Randee) McCabe,  David (Stephanie) Malterer, Brittany (Zach) Hinrichs; great-grandchildren, Zach and Allie McCabe, John, Eddie, Luanna, Juliette McCabe, Liam, Aurora, and Phoenix Malterer, Evelyn Hinrichs; sister, Helen (Frank) Dase of Winnebago; sisters-in-law, Shirley Schwardt, Laura Schwardt; special friend to the family, Karen Maloney, nieces and nephews.

 

Preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Keith; two brothers, Marvin and Ray.
