Marilyn “Bea” Freeburg Buckley, of Mankato, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018, at the age of 91 at Oak Terrace of North Mankato. She was born on March 4th to Ozro and Ruth Hall in Anoka, MN. Bea graduated from Anoka High School in 1944 and then attended Hamline University Cadet Nurses School. In 1947, Bea was married to Garold “Gary” W. Freeburg in Anoka and they had five children. They moved to Mankato in 1957.
Bea will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, dear friend and, ironically, a superior Spite and Malice card-player. She had strong faith and was a role model of God’s love for everyone who knew her. Bea had a quiet charm which endeared her to her many friends. She loved her family, baking the most delicious gingerbread cookies and other goodies, knitting, crafts, music, and fishing anywhere, but especially Lake Washington. After her first husband Gary passed away in 1994, Bea found a loving and devoted partner in James “Jim” Buckley of Mankato.
Bea will be forever remembered by her loving husband Jim, and her children Gary (Kathy) of Harrisonburg, VA, Tom (Katheryn) of Anchorage, AK, Keith (Joann) of Hendersonville, NC, Laurie (Kerry) Maple Grove (MN), and Ann (Todd) Hendersonville, NC. She will also be forever remembered by her twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Bea will also be remembered by the extended Buckley family, including Jim’s three children Chrisanne (Jeff), James Jr. (Sandy), and Laurie (Roger). Bea is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, brother and her sister, and one of Jim’s sons.
A service in celebration of Bea’s life will be held this Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 501 S 2nd St, Mankato. The visitation will be at 10am, followed by an 11am service. A lunch reception is planned. Northview – North Mankato Mortuary is assisting Bea’s family with arrangements.
