William L. Edwards, age 94, of North Mankato, MN died on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Pathstone Assisted Living.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Mankato. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice. www.mankatomortuary.com
Bill was born on December 22, 1923 in Mankato to Thomas and Edythe (Anderson) Edwards. He graduated from Mankato High in 1942. Bill entered the Navy V12 Program at Gustavus Adolphus College followed by a semester at Notre Dame. Bill was commissioned into active duty in the United States Navy and he served on the USS Hydrus for two years. He served in the Navy Reserves for 20 years. Bill graduated from the University of Minnesota School Of Business in 1948. He joined his father with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and continued as an agent for 60 years, retiring in 2008. Bill was united in marriage to Ginny Hooper on July 23, 1960 in Minneapolis. Bill served as President of the Board at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital, was a member of the Mankato Planning Commission, and was instrumental in founding the Mankato Rehabilitation Center. He was a longtime member of Kiwanis and a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church. Bill was an Eagle Scout and was a past Boy Scout troop leader. Bill enjoyed golfing, tennis, sailing, skiing, traveling the world, and spending winter vacations in Mexico.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ginny; two nephews, Bruce (Susan) Edwards and Brian (Amy) Edwards; and niece, Nancy (Jerry) Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Tom and Bruce.
