Dolores “Dee” K. Jones, age 89, of Mankato, died Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Minneopa Cemetery, rural Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church.
Dee was born March 25, 1928, in Hagerstown, Maryland to Leslie R. and Carrie M. (Myers) Keller. She graduated from Towson State University, Towson, Maryland in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and taught elementary school while living in Maryland. She married Rev. Howard F. Jones on June 30, 1951. After the death of her husband, she became Director of the Minnesota Senior Federation – South Central Region in 1979. Upon retirement in June 1993, she became an active volunteer in the organization. She also enjoyed singing in the Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church choir, was active in the United Methodist Women, and served on various church committees. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, and tole painting.
Dee is survived by her three daughters, Julie Marie Jones of Brainerd, MN, Marianne (Mike) Kurkowski of Magnolia, TX, and Lynda Lee Jones of River Falls, WI; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Cindy Kohl of River Falls, WI.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Howard F. Jones; her parents; and grandson, Joshua Weaver.
