Carl Unzeitig, Jr.

Carl Joseph Unzeitig, Jr., 78 of North Mankato, died peacefully January 28, 2018 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 and one hour prior to the service at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Carl was born August 15, 1939 to Carl, Sr. and Audrey (Radford) Unzeitig in Mankato. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1957. Carl was an iron worker and worked for LH Soules Construction and was a member of Wilson McShane Union Iron Workers Union. He retired in 1993.

His love for the outdoors included skiing at Mount Kato, where he was on the ski patrol and was a ski instructor. He was a certified scuba diver and instructor. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing along with hockey, both playing and coaching his son's youth hockey team. 

After his retirement, he spent many hours helping his friends with various projects, travelling to Florida and Arizona to visit "the guys" and meeting his friends for coffee was a highlight of his day. He always looked forward to meeting with his card club friends for their monthly gatherings. While at Hillcrest, he enjoyed playing bingo.

Carl always enjoyed spending time with his family, eating his favorite meals; biscuits and gravy from N'Kato, roast beef and dumplings, and chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk. 

Carl is survived by his children, Terri Blank, Anna Ploog, and Mike Unzeitig; grandchildren, Matt, Sam (Shai), Brandon (Kayla), Stephanie (Orin Johnson), Erika (Cody Baum), Ryan, and Ben; and great-grandchildren, Jensen and Greyson. He preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Lisa Unzeitig.

God has you in his arms, we have you in our hearts.
