James "Jim" P. Haack

James Peter Haack, age 98, of North Mankato, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato.  Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., Friday at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangement.

James was born May 25, 1919 to John and Mary (Molitor) Haack in North Mankato.  He graduated from Mankato High School in 1937.  He worked as assistant manager of the Urban and Grand theaters in Mankato for several years.  He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 serving four years and was assigned to the Pacific Division Air Transport Command and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.  After his discharge he lived in Washington State for several years.  He married Monica Toohey in June 1952 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Mankato.  Shortly thereafter they moved to North Mankato.  They were blessed with four sons. He was employed by Brandt Cleaners for several years and then for the Mankato Post Office for 24 years as a clerk and letter carrier.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, served on a number of church committees, and taught Jr. High CCD classes for six years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5551 and the American Legion Post #11 of Mankato.  He was retired member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  In his retirement he was an avid golfer and earned membership in the “Hole in One” club at Ironwood Golf Course and Terrace View Golf Course.  He enjoyed his retirement wintering in Florida and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. 

Jim is survived by his four sons and wives, Dave and Mary Beth Haack, Mark and Kristen Haack, Dan Haack and special friend, Dee, Peter and Kelly Haack; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Lenz; sister-in-law, Charlotte Mullin; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Monica in 2014; two sisters, Elizabeth Loeffler and Leona Kolstad.
