Robert Paul Schmitt, age 75, of Mankato, died on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Benedictine Living in St. Peter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born on January 6, 1943 to Paul and Laura (Faust) Schmitt in Mankato. He attended SS Peter and Paul Elementary School and graduated from Loyola High School in 1961. Robert received two Bachelor of Science degrees from Minnesota State University in 1966 and 1971. He was a teacher in the Mankato school district for over 30 years. After retirement, he was involved in the family rental business. As a young boy, Robert enjoyed Boy Scouts and received the ad Altare Dei award and earned his Eagle Scout. Robert served in the United States Navy (Naval Air Reserve). He enjoyed traveling, sports, golf, art, and sport cars. He loved going for rides to Okoboji, IA and participated in the yacht club in Okoboji. Robert was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Knight Templer, and the Masons.
Robert is survived by his special friend, Mardella Jinkerson; aunt, Peg Schmitt; and cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Laura Schmitt; grandparents, Henry and Mary Schmitt and Otto and Ida Faust; uncle, Clinton and Phyllis Faust; and other uncles and aunts.
