Thomas Lee Schoen, age 66, of Mankato, died December 23, 2017 at his home.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. There will be a Rosary Service at 8:30 a.m. Please visit www.mankatomortuary.com to leave a memory for Thomas’ family.
Thomas was born September 11, 1951 to Willard Jacob Schoen and Evelyn Marie (Weers) Schoen, of Murdock, Minnesota. He attended Murdock Public School and graduated in 1969. Thomas married Julie (Kruckeberg) Covey on June 10, 1983. In 1974 Thomas started working as a construction ironworker. He became a member of Ironworkers Local 512 out of St. Paul, Minnesota. Thomas worked as a proud member until he was injured in 1989 and he had to withdraw in 1990. He began working construction management from 1990-1997. Thomas also worked for McGough Construction as an assistant site supervisor on the construction sites of the St. Peter Hospital and Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Learning in St. Paul. Upon completion of this center, he left construction to work for Kato Engineering in North Mankato in 2005 until he retired in September of 2017. Thomas loved hunting, fishing, photography, gardening, reading, cycling, and kayaking.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Julie; son, Dana; grandchildren, Brandon, Bailey, Alyssa, Samantha, and Austin; step-son, Garrett; step-grandson, Jaysan; brothers, Bob, John, Chuck, and Steve (and their wives); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest son, Anthony; brother, Gerald; sister, Marjorie; and brothers-in-law, Paul and David.
