Lauretta Lillie (Squires) Jorgenson, age 70, of Mankato, Minnesota, unexpectedly passed away at her home on Monday, December 11, 2017.
A celebration of Lauretta L. Jorgenson’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, on Saturday, January 6, 2018, with a visitation 2 hours prior at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN, 56003. All of her family, friends, and acquaintances are welcome to attend.
Lauretta was born on February 27th, 1947, in Redwood Falls, MN, to Donald and Margarete Squires. In 1966, she graduated from Owatonna High School and went on to attend the Vera-Duane Academy of Hair Design in Minneapolis. Upon graduation, she worked for Control Data Corporation in the Minneapolis area.
Lauretta married the love of her life, Harley Jorgenson, on May 12th, 1973, in Mankato, MN. Together they had three children: Jason, Matthew, and Rebecca. After many years of focusing on her family and raising her children, she returned to work as a playground supervisor and office assistant at Roosevelt Elementary School in Mankato. She then went to work for the Mankato Free Press in the circulation department, and later, Spartech Plastics in Mankato as their receptionist.
Like all great mothers, Lauretta was active in her children's development; she readily volunteered with both the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts as a youth leader, and fostered a keen interest in reading from an early age. In her free time, she and Harley enjoyed the friendship of the 500 Club Card Group for many years. She loved to read, knit, and work word puzzles. Many people will remember her for the delicious cakes and treats that she made.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, and her brother Donald Squires Jr.
Lauretta is survived by her children Jason (Amy Moravetz) Jorgenson, Matthew (Rachel) Jorgenson, Rebecca (Andrew) Landman; her brother Paul (Susan) Squires, sister Anita (Robert) Squires, and many nieces and nephews.
